wonder why...

Why do we celeberate women's day? I really wonder why ? I believe it is over a hundred years since we celeberated women's day. 101 times we have celeberated ...celeberated what? Does it make a difference to women of this world or humanity at large that such day is earmarded for celeberation? Who should be celeberating, just the women? Who are the women who celeberate it ? The ones in corporate offices , soft ware firms , Banks etc.And what do we do ? Talk about the women achievers and who are the achievers the ones who became a CEO, the first Prime Minister, the IG of Police , a Chief Justice What about the Sharmila languishing in northeast, what about the RTI activist shot dead in her car?
What about the the unsung , unknown hundreds batteling poverty , trying to make ends meet, struggling as domestic help in urban areas, what about the ones that trudge miles to carry water from parched surroundings, what about the little girls married off to old men off shore, what about those pursued and killed because they married outside their caste/ community, what about the ones that fall victim to lust of men in positions of power ? What do they have to celeberate ? Wonder why ... I celeberate women's day... and what am I celeberating...what is accomplished by the celeberation...yet I celeberate year after year.Wonder why....

wow, am reading it bit late, yet its ok when am willing to harmonize your song and echo your thoughts. I am basically a supporter of feminism, but not the feminism which rationalize the human weakness and symbolize it as women's freedom and liberation. Your points were the same i ask the feminists who keep talking about liberation of women from household chores.
Womanhood, in its true essence is the symbol of creation, representation of love and the vital energy link responsible for fertility and prosperity. Yet, there remains the women, both in urban and rural world without getting what they deserve, which is nothing but respect. The lives of many have not changed despite the efforts from govt of anti dowry law, law for violence against women etc. These are often used as loop holes by the so called liberated women to get an easy divorce, as a result the govt eases the law. All through the process, the poor deserving women continues, unaware of either the law creation or its exhaustion due to misuse. But, lets for a moment forget the womwn who misuse either law or their freedom or even gender and talk only about the majority of normal women. A woman might have even bcome the CEO of a corporate, thats her career achievement and its a part of social change when the gender distinction relaxes allowing liberal participation of both men and women in the society. But the fundamental question is, within the woman's family, whether CEO or beggar, is she respected for what she is? Many a normal families of course give their love to their women, but in their inner heart do they respect the women of the society, the holy grail of this world?
